What are the factors that affect the reading of gas detector?

Gas detector is a kind of instrument to detect the concentration of gas leakage. It mainly uses sensors to detect the types of gases existing in the environment. Gas sensors are used to detect the composition and content of gases.

Many environmental factors may affect the readings of gas detector sensors, especially the oxygen detector. Including pressure, humidity and temperature changes. Changes in pressure and humidity can affect the amount of oxygen actually present in the atmosphere.

Pressure change

If the pressure changes sharply (such as when passing through the gas plug), the sensor reading of the gas detector may fluctuate temporarily, which may cause the detector to give an alarm. When the oxygen volume percentage is maintained at about 20.8% and the whole pressure drops greatly, the oxygen for breathing in the environment may become dangerous.

Humidity change

If the humidity changes significantly (e.g. from a dry environment with air conditioning to an outdoor humid air environment), the water vapor in the air will drive away the oxygen, causing the oxygen reading to drop by up to 0.5%. The sensor of gas detector is equipped with special filter to eliminate the influence of humidity change on gas reading. This effect will not be detected immediately, but it will slowly affect the degree of oxygen over several hours.

temperature variation

The sensor has temperature compensation. However, if the temperature fluctuates sharply, the sensor reading of gas detector may drift. The instrument should be calibrated at work site to minimize the influence of temperature change on the reading.

When cleaning the gas detector, it is necessary to use wet cloth to clean the outer surface of the instrument. It is strictly forbidden to use detergent. Because the cleaner may also have silicon, it will damage the combustible gas sensor. In the storage, should choose as far as possible safe and dry place, storage temperature range of 18 ℃ - 30 ℃. Before using the stored gas detector, the calibration of the detector must be repeated. During transportation, the protective gas detector should be packed with appropriate liner to prevent accidental damage to the instrument during transportation.
